MADAM X - 2022
Madame X is an honor bestowed monthly on a club member who has given a great deal of time and talent to promote club activities. The recipient of this honor receives a free lunch.
January - Donna Carroll

This month’s Madam X is the incredible Donna Carroll. We have been a year without a person in the VP for Activities slot. Although we have been unable to meet in person for the majority of the year, the VP Activities is a VITAL voting member of the SPANRC Board on Financial matters. We have had to adjust our board procedures over the past year to accommodate this vacancy, so I am so thankful to Donna for stepping up to the SPANRC plate to lead Activities. I am looking forward to Donna and her wonderful ideas to lead SPANRC Activities in the next year. Congratulations Donna on being this month’s Madam X.
February - Cindy Muma

This month’s Madam X is the incredible Cindy Muma. Cindy has tirelessly served SPANRC as the Treasurer for more years than anyone can remember. She has kept our books in order, collected money for luncheons, dues, and other activities we have held over the years. Cindy makes dealing with numbers, bank accounts, and balancing the books look easy. Trust me when I say though that it is not an easy job to keep things balanced, but she has done so seamlessly. Cindy has passed the Treasurer torch to another board member, but she continues to serve the club as our Webmaster. Her kindness and dedication to each of us in SPANRC is boundless. I feel honored to have her on the board and to have her friendship and love. Thank you, Cindy. Congratulations on being this month’s Madam X.
March - Jerre Ebbesen

This month’s Madam X is Jerre Ebbesen. Jerre is PHENOMENAL!!! Jerre has been a club member for many years, so long that she is a Golden member. Jerre has attended many functions, luncheons, coffees and has been involved in many club activities throughout her years in SPANRC. She exemplifies our club values of kindness, hope, patience and friendship. Jerre is always thoughtful and her experiences in her life are an inspiration to all of us. She had an amazing career as a nurse and has led a remarkable life. Jerre is moving out of Woodbury to her new assisted living apartment in Highland Park in mid-February. This may make it difficult for her to join us as often for SPANRC events and her absence will be missed by all of us. I hope that all of you will continue to reach out to her and offer her rides to our lunches, coffees and other events. Jerre is one of the kindest individuals in SPANRC and it is with great pride that I recognize her as this month’s Madam X. Congratulations Jerre!! We all love you!!
April - Karin Erickson

This month's Madam X is Karin Erickson. Karin is a truly valued member of the SPANRC Board. She serves as our Reservation coordinator for luncheons and other events and until recently was the leader of Knotty Ladies. Karin makes sure that each of you receives confirmation when you sign up to attend lunches and makes sure the lunch ladies know what your lunch selection is. It is a "behind the scenes" job that she does flawlessly. Everybody always gets their lunch choice and we have her to thank for handling all those details. She also ensures that name tags are available and tagged with the appropriate lunch choice and that name tags are available for our coffees. Karin continued to lead Knotty Ladies during the past two years and ensured that we got together, even if it was virtually during the pandemic. These get togethers were crucial towards keeping us sane over the past two years when we couldn't get together in person. I have truly appreciated Karin's guidance and knowledge of SPANRC and her wise counsel on SPANRC club matters. I am truly honored to have her on the board and appreciate her friendship. Thank you, Karin. Congratulations on being this month's Madam X.
May - Sandy Junker

This month’s Madam X is Sandy Junker. Sandy stepped up to produce this year’s SPANRC directory. Working with the VP for membership, she seamlessly updated member information, incorporated the history, constitution, board position descriptions, and board and committee chairs to create our new directory. When not doing directory information, Sandy serves as an integral role on the SPANRC board, providing her tremendous editing skills on the monthly newsletter, advising the webmaster on the intricacies of placing content on our website and providing a sounding board for the President on board issues. Thank you, Sandy, for all you do for SPANRC. I am truly blessed to have your expertise on the SPANRC board and to have your friendship. Congratulations on being this month’s Madam X.
June - Cathy Mears and Nancy Orgeman
Madam X was created to bestow honor on a club member who has given a great deal of time and talent to promote club activities. I can think of no greater honor to posthumously award this month’s Madam X goes to Cathy Mears and Nancy Orgeman, two really great SPANRC members, who contributed so much to our club.

Cathy Mears always gave her all to SPANRC, whether it was VP of luncheons, VP of table decorations or just attending coffees, luncheons and special events. At her memorial, her husband Steve said “In our relationship, I was the Flag pole, and Cathy was the flag. She loved being involved with people and she was ready to get involved and “wave” for anyone who needed it. I was the flag pole, supporting her every step of the way.” Cathy’s beautiful smile, wit and laughter will be missed by all of us. But she will live on in each of us as we remember her and continue to enjoy the GREAT centerpieces, she had so much fun looking for every month.

Nancy Orgeman loved being a member of our club. She enjoyed traveling, books, teaching and was a rare and special woman who brightened the lives of all of those who knew her. She loved games and chocolate. I know the world has lost a little of its sparkle with her passing, but those of us in SPANRC are privileged to have known her and we know that she will continue to shine on us all from the other side. Her prayer card from her funeral stated “Always pray to have eyes that see the best in people, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the bad, and a soul that never loses faith in God.”
Thank you, Cathy and Nancy for sharing your lives with us. We miss you both!!
July - Peggy Layer

This month’s Madam X is our Sunshine Lady, Peggy Layer. As our Sunshine Lady, Peggy works behind the scenes of our club to provide comfort, congratulations and best wishes to members during sickness, hospitalizations, deaths and happy occasions such as birth of grandchildren or important life events. She sends her personalized, one of-a-kind water colors as testament to her talent and her tremendous empathy. These cards are a treasured memory and demonstrate her thoughtfulness to each SPANRC member she reaches out to. Thank you, Peggy, for all you do for SPANRC. I am truly blessed to have your expertise on the SPANRC board and to have your friendship. Congratulations on being this month’s Madam X.
August - Elaine Easley

This month’s Madam X is our Circulation Lady, Elaine Easley. As head of Circulation for the club, Elaine mails out our newsletter to those in the club who don’t have email addresses. She has diligently kept up with this group of women, many of them Golden Members, to ensure that they are kept informed of club happenings. Elaine also helped us by mailing out the 2022 directories to ensure that members had the most up to date information in order to contact other members. We normally don’t get rid of all our directories until late in the year that we print them, so this allowed us to make sure everyone had directories by June of this year. An all-time record for us as a club!! Thank you, Elaine, for all you do for SPANRC. Your behind the scenes work truly keeps our club running. Congratulations on being this month’s Madam X.
September - Diane Selbitschka

This month’s Madam X is Diane Selbitschka. Diane has tirelessly led the SPANRC 9-hole Scramble Golf Tournament for many years. This is a fun event whether you are a golfer or just attend the luncheon. Her leadership on this event has ensured that there is delicious food, great prizes (for golfers and non- golfers alike) and that everyone who attends has a wonderful day to celebrate golf and friendship. Thank you, Diane, for serving in this role for many years. We will miss your leadership, but know you have turned this over to two able women in Joyce Roddy and Marjorie Gross. Congratulations on being this month’s Madam X.
October - Jerre Ebbesen

This month’s Madam X is Jerre Ebbesen. Jerre is PHENOMENAL!!! Jerre recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Quite the milestone!!! I hope that all of us look as good as she does at 90 and have the same sense of humor and zest for life that she shows. As a SPANRC Golden member, Jerre has belonged to the club for many years. That along with her remarkable life experience has been a true inspiration to me and many others in the club. Jerre has relocated to Highland Park this past winter and we have not seen her as often at our events and I can say that I personally miss her absence. Jerre is the one of the kindest individuals in SPANRC, and exemplifies our club values of kindness, hope, patience and friendship. It is with great pride that I recognize her as this month’s Madam X. Congratulations Jerre!! We all love you!!
November - Donna Carroll

This month’s Madam X is Donna Carroll. I am truly amazed at the hard work Donna has put into her position as VP Activities. This position was vacant during the pandemic, since we couldn’t do any real activities. Donna joined the board in 2022 after this gap and had to plan, organize without the benefit of a turnover from the prior VPs. She has done an incredible job and planned some pretty amazing events this year. Donna developed procedures for events that outlined when they required Board approval and provided thorough information to the Board for review for each of her events. Her amazing skill and ingenuity led to many enjoyable and interesting events this year including the Bell Museum, a St. Paul Saints game (with an amazing end), Rose Floral Greenhouse, Taco Bingo, Footloose at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater and a Mystery Bus Tour. Donna thinks outside the box and finds new and unique things for club members to have exciting and pleasurable events. It is with great pride that I recognize her as this month’s Madam X. Congratulations Donna!!
December - Karen Eno

This month’s Madam X is Karen Eno. Karen has served for the past three years as your Party Line editor. She has done an AMAZING job!!! She expertly takes inputs from Standing Committee Chairs and Board Members to produce every month’s newsletter. She adds her personal flair with graphics that characterize the month’s theme from Thanksgiving to Easter. Additionally, Karen has assisted the VP for Activities throughout the last year, in particular, using her talents to develop what has become the Annual Mystery Bus Tour. Her expertise in finding unique and fun events led to a Bus Tour this October that was innovative, creative and truly amazing. Additionally, she has assisted in planning other events throughout this year as well as last year. I am excited that for 2023 she will be able to do Activities, along with Donna Carroll as her full-time board position as she passes the Party Line editor to Sandy Junker. Karen is a real SUPERSTAR. She is warm, kind, and a fantastic board member and friend. It is with great pride that I recognize her as this month’s Madam X. Congratulations Karen!!
